New at ISF: AP Capstone Diploma Program

We are very proud to announce that ISF International School Frankfurt Rhein-Main has been approved to offer the AP Capstone Diploma Program. We are the only non-US Department of Defense School in the region to offer this esteemed program.

Catering to a wide variety of students with varied academic needs, ISF has expanded its offering of diploma programs, which previously included the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and the regular High School Diploma, to include the AP Capstone Diploma Program.  This new offering at ISF allows the school to customize a program to best suit individual students’ needs and their academic strengths and interests rather than offering a one-size-fits-all diploma approach.

The AP Capstone program gives students the opportunity to explore real-world issues in great depth through research and collaboration and prepares them to write and present their work effectively, both individually and in teams.  Over the two-year high school program in grades 11 and 12, students focus on skills such as college-level research, critical thinking, collaboration, presentation, and communication.

The best preparation for college and future careers

“We are looking forward to some exciting projects with our students as part of the AP Capstone Diploma Program,” said Dr. Dirk Lehmann, High School Coordinator at ISF. “It gives them the opportunity to explore complex topics affecting their lives and builds on their skills as collaborators, critical thinkers, and consumers of information”.

A focus on real world topics and skills

In addition to the AP examination courses in subjects chosen by the student, the AP Capstone program includes the AP Seminar course in Grade 11 and the AP Research course in Grade 12.  In both courses, students develop and deliver written arguments, collaborate in teams, and deliver professional multimedia presentations as part of their AP exams.

In AP Seminar, students choose real-world topics and evaluate them from multiple perspectives. Students identify credibility and bias in sources and develop arguments in support of a recommendation.

In the subsequent AP Research course, students design and execute a college-level research project on a topic of personal interest. Students expand on and hone their research skills by executing appropriate research methodology, analyzing data, presenting their results, and defending their findings.

AP Capstone Diploma or AP Seminar and Research Certificate

Students who score a 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research and on four additional AP exams of their choosing earn the AP Capstone Diploma. This signifies outstanding academic achievement and attainment of college-level academic and research skills. Students who score a 3 or higher in both AP Seminar and AP Research (and not on four additional AP Exams) earn the AP Seminar and Research Certificate.
