Another Successful International Day at ISF

On Saturday, 5th November ISF celebrated its annual International Day with Focus Countries China, Germany, India, Russia and the USA. At the traditional flag ceremony, students from Grade 5 and above represented the 47 nations at ISF.
India opened the stage performances with their Diwali celebration and traditional folk dances from Grade 4-7 students and Indian parents, as well as a fashion show from Grade 2-4 students. This was followed by a piano, violin and voice recital from award-winning Russian musicians.

The USA was represented by Ms. Rucker, Mr. Sobolak and Mr. May with their rendition of the Star Spangled Banner and Summertime. China performed some traditional dances and taiji. One of our Grade 3 Chinese students danced in the Dance of the Smurfs with her dance group. For Germany the ISF choir performed a German football song Wir sind groß and the audience was invited to join in with the chorus.

The Focus Country rooms were beautifully decorated with posters and flags, and were visited by eager ISF students, complete with passports to be stamped. Parents and students were on hand to supply information on their country and culture. The Chinese room featured a map of China with tourist attractions, some information on the Chinese favourite food, hotpot, and some stickers of China which proved to be very popular. India displayed traditional spices and hand-made pottery and visitors were able to try on Indian saris. In the German room visitors could practice their yodelling skills. Russia featured some beautiful hand-painted posters and displays while the USA gave the history of their flag and the American blues music as well as information on some of the US states and a Halloween display.

On the sports front students tried out badminton (China), goal shooting (Germany), cricket (India), gymnastics (Russia) and baseball (USA). In the cafeteria visitors could sample stir-fried duck, Toast Hawai, samosas, chicken shashlik, pumpkin soup and of course our Parent Network’s delicious cakes.
Students returned to the theatre for the tombola, eagerly waiting to win prizes from our sponsors such as MTZ vouchers, climbing vouchers, cinema tickets, basketball tickets, Lego and other toys. This year’s top prize was a wooden ship sponsored by BVMW (Bundesverband der mittelständischen Wirtschaft). All students were given complimentary snack boxes from the Marketing Department.

We would like to thank everyone who helped contribute to another successful International Day, in particular our Parent Network , SLO®, Sodexo, ISF staff and teachers, and of course our sponsors.
