Second Place for GISST Badminton Varsity Boys

On the 8th and 9th of December the ISF Varsity Badminton teams travelled to the International School of Hanover Region for the annual GISST Badminton competition. Last year, the boys’ team just missed out on the bronze medal after giving a valiant effort, which stung a bit. This year, the boys got off to a fast start, going undefeated in their group on the first day with victories over Leipzig International School, International School St Georges Duisburg-Düsseldorf, Berlin International School and International School Hanover Region. These results earned the team a bye into the semi-finals where the boys swept a strong team from International School Stuttgart. In the final, the boys went 1-5, falling to Leipzig International School. Two of these losses came by just one point each. The boys played very well, even if the finals record might suggest differently. Regardless, the boys ended up finishing 2nd out of 10 teams. Arnav Bhatia finished as the GISST singles champion, with the best record of all the #1 seeds at the tournament. This is amazing! We are hoping to improve this finish next year, as 3 of the 4 boys are returning next year. Thank you and well done to all players, coach Jack Morton, and chaperone Vivian Leon.

The Varsity girls put maximum effort into the tournament and finished 8th out of 10. They kept a positive attitude and earned the Sportsmanship Trophy. Well done girls!

We will try and schedule some competitive fixtures for all involved in the badminton program against other Frankfurt sports clubs over the course of the next few months. This will help our badminton players to improve their skills in a competitive setting.
