GISST U14 Boys and Girls Football

Recently thirteen U14 Boys left with their coaches for the Annual U14 GISST Football Championships at Bavarian International School. ISF came in 7th in a twelve team round robin format tournament. The tournament was very well organised.

Coaches and all of the players (Lukas S., Mats H., Tristan K., Gabriel C. S., Salvatore P., Antoine K., Max F., Shivan B. (Captain), Darell A., Sohaan S., Dominik Z., Aki B., and Marc T.) had a great time and came back with nice memories. The entire team demonstrated wonderful team spirit and fair play.

At the end of November, 9 girls from Grades 6 to 8 headed off to Berlin to take part in the U14 Girls Soccer Tournament. The journey from Frankfurt to Berlin is a long one, and multiple train delays (including a cow on the line and huge transport disruption due to President Obama’s visit to the capital) did not make for an easy journey. However, the long journey did not dampen the spirits of the team.

The girls started Day 1 of the tournament in good form with a draw against Berlin British School. As the day progressed, the girls’ skills improved and the team came together. There were ups and downs, and after a highly motivated final game against the Berlin Brandenburg International School, there was still everything to play for in the tournament. The first match of Day 2 against Leipzig International School was nail-bitingly close, concluding with a narrow defeat for ISF in the ninth round of a penalty shoot-out. In the final game of the tournament ISF took an early lead against Berlin Cosmopolitan School. The girls struggled to hold on to this lead and despite their best efforts they finished the game one goal down. However, all was not lost. The team played with huge determination and spirit throughout the tournament, and their continuous positive attitude to their opponents resulted in ISF winning the Best Sportsmanship Award. This is a tremendous achievement!

Well done to Abigail B. (Captain), Irune B., Emma G., Debaleena R., Jacinthe G., Sophia T., Anna M., Arohi R. and Denise S.
