ISF Kenya Project - A look back at the academic year 2021-2022

ISF Kenya Project, ISF, Kenya, International School Frankfurt, Chitsanze

This has been a productive year for the ISF Kenya Project. Thanks to the hard work and commitment of the ISF students, faculty, staff and parents, phase one of our latest building project has been completed. We finally got the long-awaited cafeteria project off the ground in August 2021. The students at Chitsanze Primary School and Chitsanze Secondary School for Girls in Kenya, East Africa now have a cafeteria. This means that they will be able to sit inside for lunch and not on the grass outside in the blazing hot sun. It has inspiring to see all parts of the ISF community working together to achieve this goal.

Since September, our focus has been on raising funds for phase two of the cafeteria project. This will include the electrical wiring and lighting of the cafeteria as well as the installation of windows.

Our fundraising activities for this year started with the Welcome Event in August and continued in the SLO and IB CAS periods. Activities include High School SLO jewellery making activity (Ms Korkmaz), IB CAS bottle recycling activities (Dr Martin Martin) and Primary School Kenya Project activity (Ms. Ganguly). Our IB CAS students also worked hard on individual jewellery making projects for the shop windows around the school and sold various items at the Christmas market.

The United Korean Project also played a major role in our fundraising this year. Byeol Ha Kim and the Grade 11 students took the initiative to plan and implement various activities such as a bead sale, an online auction, and the United Korean Concert. Our thanks go to Ms. Seong for encouraging our Korean students to get so involved.

Our IB CAS webmaster is currently upgrading our website to raise awareness of the project. In Term 2, Ms. Wilkie and Ms. Thiele launched the first Kenya Project SLO activity ever in kindergarten. The focus was on raising awareness of the Kenya Project among our young learners.

The last part of the school year has been a great success. We would also like to thank:

  • The ISF Parent Network.
  • The Grade 11 Japanese students for their bake sale in aid of the project.
  • Nihal Mansingh, Ryan Ford & Jung Young Lim who raised funds selling masks before the Middle School drama production.
  • All those who supported us at Sommerfest: Mrs. Hannon and the SLO team, Ms. Sommers, Ms. Reichert, Ms. Hajo, Ms. Lane, Ms. Shi, Ms. Schölles, Ms. Christ, Ms. Haeberlin and Mr. Mekonen.
  • ISF graduate Isabelle Christ for organising a raffle at Sommerfest in aid of the project!
  • The Mmmbeth team for their very kind donation!
  • Ms. Villard Brandt and the kindergarten staff for the summer concert & the sale of the children’s artwork.
  • ISF reception
  • Mrs Hannon and her SLO team
  • ISF Marketing
  • We have successfully reached our fundraising target for phase two of the cafeteria project and hope to start in the next few weeks. More details can be found on our website: www.isfkenya.wordpress.com
